These days there is nothing much more Kiwi than an A&P Show.
The next Paparoa A&P Show is on Saturday the 2nd of February 2019. The show is now in its 143rd year. Generations of North Kaipara people have kept the show alive and well over all these years, maintaining a heritage of connecting people to rural activities.
Everyone can benefit from our show with fun attractions and exposure to rural things that many have never experienced before.
The show is also a must for tourists wanting a taste of Kiwiana. Show day is often sunny and hot and we have plenty for you to eat and drink. Why not have a picnic on the Showground, relax and enjoy the coffee and other food provided.We have outdoor events that are always exciting and interesting – equestrian show jumping, dressage and harness ring, pedigree cattle and dairy goats, wood chopping, shearing and Western Team roping. There are indoor competitive classes in Floral, Food, Handwork and craft, Dairy, Home Brew ,Photography and School work. Our Dahlia section is one of the largest in the whole Northern District .
The market stalls and trade sites offer a great range of interesting things to view and buy. Stalls provide a wonderful array of products- including several cottage industries. We also have stalls providing information about conservation and other “green” matters. Stuff for the brain, the stomach and the pocket!
There is free parking and good facilities, including a St John ambulance and EFTPOS. Tickets are only $10 for adults and $5 each for the first two children – extra children are free as are all children under five.
Unraveling the mystery of Lead Rein Classes at A&P Shows and Ribbon Days.
Do you have a pony mad youngster who is 4 years or older and up to 7yrs and wanting to “go to a show” perhaps with older brother or sister, but cannot yet ride safely in the Open Rings ? Then the Lead Rein classes are just the place for them. This class of competition began in the UK many years ago and gradually found it’s way here to NZ, both as an outlet for that pony mad small child and for breeders of small ponies, most notably the Welsh Section A pony and small Welsh partbreds and Riding Ponies under 128cm. The rules and guidelines have been formalised over several years and now can be found in the NZ Royal Agricultural Society’s Rule Book, an essential tool for competitors and judges alike.
